| A: | A student entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before September 1 of that year. All prospective students are tested for academic and social readiness. Candidates are prioritized as follows: siblings whose families are already in the school; children of active parishioners; Catholics out of parish; and non-Catholics. | ||
| Q: | What forms do I need to register my child for kindergarten? For older grades? | ||
| A: | In order to apply for admission to St. Gregory School you will need to complete a brief Application and a Parent Participation form. Once you submit your application, the school office will advise you regarding testing or other admissions requirements. | Q: | How does the St. Gregory administration communicate with parents? | ||
| A: | The most widely used communication vehicle is known as the “Wednesday Envelope.” The Wednesday Envelope is issued weekly and contains a letter from the principal, news updates, and flyers featuring various events, activities, and announcements. This is sent home electronically weekly. St. Gregory also maintains a school Web site featuring calendars, contact information, sports updates, and downloadable forms. | ||
| Q: | What do I need to know about the school uniform and where to get it? | ||
| A: | Detailed uniform requirements can be obtained in the Parent/Student Handbook. Most of the uniform items can be purchased at Dennis Uniform in Redwood City or online at www.dennisuniform.com. Sweatshirts, t-shirts and other outerwear are ordered through the T-Party. Order forms are available in the school office. Bulk orders are placed several times per year. St. Gregory also conducts an ongoing free Uniform Exchange program, in which all school families can participate. | ||
| Q: | What is the parent participation commitment for volunteer hours? | ||
| A: | Parent participation is a hallmark of St. Gregory School and essential to the successful operation of the school. Each family is required to give 40 hours to the school annually (20 hours for single parent families). There are many ways to earn those hours including participating in the Parent’s Club, assisting in your child’s classroom, chaperoning fields trips, helping with parish or school events—like the Back-to-School BBQ, Crab Feed and the annual parish festival—to name just a few. | ||
| Q: | Do you have an Extended Care Program? What are its hours? | ||
| A: | St. Gregory Extended Care program offers quality care to all St. Gregory students. We provide a program designed to meet the growth and development needs for all children, in a safe and nurturing environment. We present a variety of activities, a nutritious snack, and homework time. Extended Care operates on school days from 7 A.M. -8 A.M. and beginning after school until 6 P.M. | ||
| Q: | What is the school tuition and when is it due? | ||
| A: | St. Gregory tuition for the 2011-2012 school year is $5,994 for one child. This includes annual registration fees. Tuition is expected to increase by 5%-7% next year. Tuition is paid monthly via convenient electronic debit or payment in full. | ||
| Q: | How does your sports program work? | ||
| A: | The St. Gregory sports program supplements our academic program by encouraging the development of physical fitness and skill development, school spirit, teamwork, and sportsmanship. All students in grades 4th-8th are encouraged to participate. St. Gregory offers the following PPSL sports: boys’ baseball, girls’ volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and track (boys and girls, grades 5th-8th). | ||

| A: | St. Gregory’s Hot Lunch Service is offered every Tuesday-Friday through Children’s Choice. The program is optional—hot lunches can be ordered on–line at www.ChoiceLunch.com Your child will enjoy a wide variety of hot and cold choices all prepared with a commitment to providing the students with a well-balanced, nutritious meal. | ||
| Q: | Do St. Gregory classes participate in off-campus field trips? | ||
| A: | Yes! All classes participate in age-appropriate field trips throughout the school year. Most field trips feature performances, museums, science programs and other enriching activities. In addition, there are several longer trips, including: 4th graders enjoy an educational, fun 3-day trip to the Gold Country; 6th graders participate in a 5-day outdoor education adventure; and 8th graders spend a week together in Yosemite to bond, learn and celebrate their years together. | ||
| Q: | What is Scrip or eScrip? Do you have a scrip commitment for school families? | ||
| A: | Scrip is a fundraising program where the school receives a small percentage of participants’ retail purchases. Yes, every school family is requested to participate in St. Gregory’s eScrip program. You simply register at www.escrip.com our account number is 138387513. Register one or all of your existing grocery loyalty, debit and credit cards for use in the program. Participating merchants will make contributions to St. Gregory, based on purchases made by you, just by using the cards you have registered. Every family is asked to participate in e-scrip with a spending goal of $3500.00 each year. Single parent families are responsible for half of that amount. | ||
