Measuring the baby sequoia trees.

During my experience in Yosemite with my hiking group, I learned about stewardship. We learned about stewardship by measuring the baby Sequoia trees. It's an example of stewardship because you are taking care of the environment to make sure it is a healthy and strong for today and future generations to come. To record the height of the baby Sequoias, we first took a GPS system and placed it at the bottom of the tree. This recorded where the tree was so people on the future can use it to find their way to the tree. The next thing that we did was to take a measuring tape and measure the height and crown of the Sequoias; we recorded this on the GPS system. After that we measured the diameter and the circumference of the baby Sequoias, and also recorded it on the GPS. This showed stewardship by helping people in the future to know where baby Sequoias are so they can monitor how much they grow in a couple of years. From this experience of stewardship, I have learned that when you help the environment now, people will benefit from your efforts in the future.
